COVID-19: Closure of bars, restaurants and similar premises

23rd March 2020 - Published by Felicity Tulloch

The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Business Closure) Regulations state that as of 2pm on Saturday 21 March it is a criminal offence for premises including bars, pubs, restaurants, nightclubs, theatres, gyms and spas to remain open.  Takeaways may continue to operate, provided there is no consumption of food or drink on the premises, and only room service in hotels is permitted.  The Regulations provide for enforcement action to be taken against premises not complying with the ban, and on conviction, operators face potentially an unlimited fine.
