Changes to the rules for TEN licenses

8th December 2023

Rebecca Egan from our Licensing department looks at the changes to Temporary Event Notices.

With the New Year just around the corner, the rules for Temporary Event Notices (TEN) are about to change.

Under the Business and Planning Act 2020, the TEN allowance was increased from 15 to 20 per year in order to help the hospitality industry recover from the pandemic.  However, this is now going to revert back to the previous limit.

As of 1st January 2024, the new allowance will be as follows:

  • Number of TENs per premises each year:
    • Is 15.
  • Number of days per premises:
    • 21.

TENs will still be able to last up to 168 hours (7 days), a 24-hour gap between each TEN will still be required and the maximum capacity of a TEN will remain at 499.
