The new duty to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace

From 26 October 2024 employers will be under a new duty to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.

The Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act 2023 (2023 Act) inserts a new section into the Equality Act 2010 that will require employers to take reasonable steps to prevent the sexual harassment of employees during the course of their employment. Under proposals contained in the Employment Rights Bill (which you can read about here) this will be extended to require employers to take all reasonable steps.
