Sam is a Senior Associate in the Dispute Resolution department.

Areas of Expertise

Sam has significant experience of dealing with commercial litigation and insolvency matters.

Sam acts for insolvency practitioners (administrators and liquidators), creditors, debtors, companies and directors in contentious corporate insolvency matters including claims relating to the bringing of winding up petitions, injunctions to restrain winding up petitions,  preferences, enforcing personal guarantees, breach of directors’ duties, transactions at undervalue, recovery of overdrawn directors’ loan accounts amongst others.

Sam also advises Directors who are the subject of investigations from the Official Receiver as well as advising on administration applications and advising insolvency practitioners in relation to issues that may arise during the course of an administration or liquidation.

In addition to this Sam has led a wide range of complex commercial disputes in the High Court. These disputes include the enforcement of securities and commercial contracts, breaches of restrictive covenants as well as shareholder and partnership disputes.

Sam is known for his commercial approach and offers pragmatic and easy to understand advice to his clients. He also has considerable experience of Alternative Dispute Resolution which has become increasingly important in recent years.

Reported cases include:
  • Rose & Ors v Creativityetc Ltd & Ors [2019] EWHC – Acting for the first Defendant in opposing an application to re-amend the particulars of claim to plead an entirely new case to include fraud which would have caused the adjournment of the trial window.
  • Manolete Partners Plc v Dalal & Ors [2022] EWHC 1597 (Ch) – acting for second and third defendant in a claim relating to the breach of directors’ duties and unlawful preferences in relation to a claimant which had gone on into liquidation.
